How to get maximum information from AirControl

I have received several emails in last few weeks about graphs in AirControl Mobile. Some users reported issues with viewing them. When they opened Statistics window for some device, it shows either empty graphs with no data or sometimes it reported an error.

The problem is actually in AirControl(AC) server configuration. AC Mobile can present only data provided by AC server. If it doesn’t provide them, AC Mobile doesn’t show anything.

What can I do to get maximum data from AC Server?

There are few simple steps to configure AC server.

  1. Login to your AC server with username and password you use in AC Mobile (important!).
  2. Click on the top rightmost icon in the main device list (see the screenshot) and select “Customize List”.
  3. Select all items in the left list and click on “Add” button, then click on “Save”.
  4. You should see much more columns in device list. All these data columns will now be provided also to AC Mobile.

There is also some things you should keep in mind. If you specify more columns, AC Mobile will show more data but it can be also little slower (it has to download and process more data) and consumes more data from your dataplan (if you use 3G).

I would recommend starting with all columns and then specify only columns which has useful information for you.

Great, but graphs are still empty!

Yes, because AirControl in its default configuration has graphing disabled. I will show you now how to enable that feature.

  1. Login to your AC server with username and password you use in AC Mobile (important!).
  2. Click on the top rightmost icon in the main device list (see the screenshot) and select “Attribute Configuration”.
  3. Check Enable History for rows ccq, lanRxBytes, lanTxBytes, noise, signal, wlanConnections, wlanPollingCapacity, wlanPollingQuality, wlanRxRate, wlanTxRate.
  4. Click on Save button and refresh the page.
  5. Click on specified icon and choose Graph.
  6. Wait few minutes (AC needs some time to collect data) and you should see the graphs.
  7. Open AC Mobile, click on some device, select Statistics in menu and you should see nice graphs.
